Very Very Very Very cold. -20, -30 Celcius. February is by far the worst time of year. It's also the time when everyone is the most depressed.

Real Estate is very high. My two room apartment on the outskirts of the city cost 1700$ a month. Restaurants are can be quite pricey as well. Imported clothing is astronomical. But once you're there for a while, you can figure out how to live cheaper. For backpackers, it will be up there with London as far as expense goes.
There are lot's of things to do in Moscow! Obvously the guidebook sights, like red square, the Kremlin, etc. THe art museums like the Pushkin are cool. There are many beautiful parks, like Staristino, and Kolomskaya. NVDk park is cool, an old soviet theme park which is now a lively place with shops and rides and games, etc. The night life is very clubby, mostly pretentious places with tight face control. Avoid the Vodka Bar. Crisis Genre is probobly the best of the lot.
