   I can't seem to add Tokyo as a city I've been to. I've tried both searching and navigating there from the map. Any clues?

   Tokyo is listed in the site as Edo.

   Could then New York also please be listed as New Amsterdam?? The city of Edo changed name in 1868 to Tokyo. Although the city of Tokyo resolved after WWII into a bunch of smaller cities, the prefecture and the main station are still called Tokyo, not Edo.
